Information/Bio:

The Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Chorus is an award-winning choir formed almost 20 years ago as ‘Alsounds’. The Chorus has flourished since and now numbers around 80 singers under the music direction of Darren Wicks.

The Chorus offers a supportive environment for enjoyable learning and performance and usually presents two major concerts a year. The repertoire for performances is diverse – anthems, show tunes, pop songs, world music, folk, gospel, jazz, madrigals, classical, religious music and carols.

2006 marked a milestone with the introduction of the MGLC Youth Chorus, described as a “Chorus within a Chorus” for persons 16-25 years. Members of both choruses challenge stereotypes and stand as proud role models for those still struggling with their sexuality or identity.

The Chorus has performed to critical acclaim throughout Melbourne, in regional centres, interstate and internationally. Awards include winning the Boroondara Eisteddfod and two Rainbow Awards for Best Live Performance. To date 5 CDs have been produced – Evolution, Feelin’ Groovy, Kaleidoscope, In Flight and Walk On By. The MGLC Youth Chorus has also produced a CD in its own right - the fabulous 'Count Me In'.
