Originally from Andalusia, and now residing in Madrid, flamenco singer and guitarist Diego Guerrero and percussionist Nasrine Rahmani are set to tour Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Hobart with their flamenco Latin quintet in January and February 2010.
Raised directly amongst flamenco culture, Diego´s repertoire explores the "cante jondo" and incorporates the popular styles of bolero, copla, Argentinean tango and afro Cuban music. His arrangements adapt these styles for the instrumentation of a Latin jazz quintet, always maintaining the purity of flamenco in its essence
His latest single “Malos Tiempos” has received overwhelming attention and acclaim from some of Spain’s most important recording artists.
“ .. your voice sounds like Ibrahim (Ferrer), but flamenco. I love it! And that girl is dangerous!” Diego el Cigala
Since their recent move to Madrid, Diego and Nasrine have performed with the likes of Jerry Gonzalez, Jorge Pardo, Rubem Dantas, Juan de Juan, Belen Lopez and Caramelo de Cuba and are now excited to be touring Nasrine’s home country Australia for the second time.
Their Australian quintet features some of Australia’s most outstanding Latin and jazz musicians including bassist Ryan Monro (The Cat Empire), pianist Ben Winkelman (Ben Winkelman Trio) and alto saxophonist Lachlan McLean (San Lazaro, 12 Tone Diamonds).
