The Boîte World Music Café proudly presents the World Music Open Mic, a series of events that offers musicians from all over the world an opportunity to be heard in a city that abounds with diversity but has very limited outlets for showcasing it musically.
These events do not adhere to any particular genre or style. They are about recognising the invaluable heritage that musicians carry with them as they move from one place to another, and celebrating the creative contribution that every one of them brings to the musical landscape of Melbourne.
We invite musicians of all genres and styles, from all backgrounds and in all languages, with whatever instruments you brought with you to Australia or just with your voice. It’s an opportunity to perform to an audience eager to hear music they have never heard before, to meet other musicians from around the world and to engage with The Boîte if you don’t already do so.
The World Music Open Mic will run on the second Wednesday of every month, starting on March 14, at Compass Pizza (319 Lygon St Brunswick East) from 7:30pm. They are free to attend and to participate in.
You are invited to perform a 15-minute (unpaid) set. If you would like to perform at an upcoming World Music Open Mic night, register through the link below and we will contact you to confirm your allocated time. Participants will be contacted in order of registration. When a session fills up, your name will stay on file and be rolled over to the next one.
