Vardos

Driven by violinist Alana, chased by Kirri (double bass) and Sofia (accordion), Vardos play folk and Romany music learnt from Rroma (Gypsy) musicians during their Eastern European travels. Formed late last century, Vardos have played in every state of Australia, toured to Europe, Britain, New Zealand, New Caledonia and the U.S. and appeared in film and television.
Vardos have made many trips through Eastern Europe. International performances include West Meets East Roma and Traveller Festival (London), Museum of the Bohemian (Amsterdam) Szent Ivan Folk Festival (Hungary), The Famous Spiegeltent (Edinburgh Fringe), bars in Berlin and guinguettes in France. Aside from successful shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Vardos appeared on Scottish television and BBC News, were nominated for the BBC Radio3 World Music Awards and have also been Aria award finalists.
Performances in Australia include Falls Festival in Marion Bay, Tasmania, Lorne Victoria and Byron Bay NSW, National Folk Festival, Dark MOFO Tasmania, Junction Arts Festival Launceston, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne Festival, Melbourne Recital Centre, Fairbridge Festival W.A. and Alice Desert Festival.

COVID-19 lockdown activities included the radio play ‘The Top Secret Violin Case’ supported by City of Melbourne and the large walkthough art and music installation ‘ANTFARM – an Anthropomorphosis’ supported by Merri Health, Coffex Coffee and Arts Moreland.
