Zikra

Zikra (meaning "recollection" or "memory" in Arabic) is a dynamic four-piece ensemble paying homage to nostalgic songs of love and loss from the MENA region. Drawing from classical Andalusian music, Arabic and Persian pop, and jazz, Zikra add a modern twist to elaborate Eastern tunes without losing their sophistication.

Started by lead singer Gabriela's strong desire to connect to her Syrian heritage and continue her spoken Arabic, the music and poetry soon formed a life of its own. Being a spoken-word poet, as well as a singer, she weaves the poetry of the lyrics seamlessly into the music to create an ethereal experience for the audience.

Ensemble members include vocalist Gabriela Georges, guitarist Tony Pain, keyboardist/accordionist Ariel Valent, and bassist Ben Harmsen.
